1. Folsom Lake

Boats tagged for Folsom by Good Life Rentals.

  • Requirements: Mandatory 30-day quarantine or professional decontamination. To bypass a mandatory 30-day out-of-water quarantine (Red Seal) and launch immediately, vessels must undergo a professional hot-water decontamination to receive a Green Seal.
  • Inspection/Decontamination Locations: Performed at approved regional marine dealerships and local service partners, including Mello Marine Dealership, 7450 Folsom-Auburn Rd, Folsom, CA 95630.
  • Decontamination Cost: $120 for an intermediate ski boat.

2. Lake Berryessa

  • Requirements: Mandatory 30-day quarantine or professional decontamination. Berryessa uses a strict Red/Green seal system identical to Folsom. To bypass a 30-day out-of-water quarantine (Red Seal), you must get a professional hot-water decontamination (Green Seal) to launch immediately.
  • Inspection Locations: Administered by the Solano County Water Agency (SCWA) and local concessionaires directly at the main launch ramps during normal operational hours.
  • Locations: Markley Cove Marina, 7521 State Hwy 128, Napa, CA 94558; Pleasure Cove Marina, 6100 State Hwy 128, Napa, CA 94558; Capell Cove Boat Launch, 5800 Knoxville Rd, Napa, CA 94558.
  • Decontamination Cost: $120 for an intermediate ski/wakeboard boat.

3. Rollins Lake & Scotts Flat Lake

  • Requirements: Mandatory quarantine or professional decontamination. Run by the Nevada Irrigation District (NID), they require all motorized watercraft to log into the program. You either accept a 30-day quarantine (60 days if you have ballasts/bilge tanks) via a Red Seal, or bypass it with an approved hot-water decontamination.
  • Inspection Locations: Greenhorn Campground, 15000 Greenhorn Access Rd, Grass Valley, CA 95945; Orchard Springs Campground, 14275 Orchard Springs Rd, Chicago Park, CA 95712; Long Ravine Campground, 26905 Rollins Lake Rd, Colfax, CA 95713.
  • Decontamination Cost: NID provides quarantine tagging for free. If you choose to bypass quarantine via on-site or approved mobile decontamination, the cost ranges between $95 and $170. Expect about $120-$150 for an intermediate ski boat with ballast tanks.

4. Don Pedro Lake

  • Requirements: Self-inspection and mandatory paper certification. Don Pedro does not currently force you into a physical wire-seal lockdown station, but you must legally fill out and sign a Mussel Self-Inspection Launch Certification Permit before launching.
  • Inspection Locations: Self-inspection forms must be printed in advance or filled out at the gate, signed, and displayed on your vehicle dashboard at the launch ramps.
  • Locations: Fleming Meadows Recreation Area, 11500 Bond’s Flat Rd, La Grange, CA 95329; Blue Oaks Recreation Area, 10100 Bond’s Flat Rd, La Grange, CA 95329; Moccasin Point Recreation Area, 11401 Jacksonville Rd, Jamestown, CA 95327.
  • Decontamination Cost: $0. There is no on-site decontamination fee because it is a self-certified check. If you fail a random physical check by a ranger or state your boat has been in an infested waterbody in the last 30 days, you may be turned away and forced to seek a private decontamination center off-site.

5. New Bullards Bar Reservoir

  • Requirements: Mandatory physical screening with no tagging or quarantine. Yuba Water Agency mandates that all motorized watercraft must pass a quick physical screening before every launch. They inspect for standing water, mud, and vegetation.
  • Inspection Locations: Cottage Creek Boat Launch, 13100 Willow Glen Rd, Oregon House, CA 95962 near Emerald Cove Marina; Dark Day Boat Launch, Dark Day Boat Ramp Rd off Marysville Rd, Camptonville, CA 95922.
  • Decontamination Cost: $0. The screening is free, but New Bullards Bar does not offer decontamination services on-site. If you arrive with excessive standing water in ballast tanks or bilge, you may be denied launch and given a list of off-site private marine shops.

6. Lake Camanche

  • Requirements: Mandatory on-site physical inspection administered by EBMUD. Every vessel must pass a physical inspection before hitting the water. If your boat is dry, you pass. If they find standing water in bilges or ballast tanks, or if your boating history shows recent high-risk exposure, you may be denied entry until decontaminated.
  • Inspection Locations: Camanche South Shore, 11719 Camanche Rd, Clements, CA 95237; Camanche North Shore, 2000 Camanche Rd, Ione, CA 95640.
  • Decontamination Cost: Free physical inspection. If your vessel fails due to standing water or high-risk history, park staff can perform an on-site hot-water flush. Cost varies by boat type, usually $50-$100 for a standard hot flush of internal compartments.

7. Collins Lake

  • Requirements: Self-inspection / visual screening at gate. Collins Lake relies on screening questions at the main entrance gate and visual checks by staff. They do not use a rigid WID cable-seal database or mandatory hot-wash program, but you must be clean, drained, and dry.
  • Inspection Location: Collins Lake Recreation Area, 7530 Collins Lake Rd, Browns Valley, CA 95918.
  • Decontamination Cost: $0. No on-site decontamination facilities are present.

8. Lake Oroville

  • Requirements: Mandatory physical inspection / screenings. As part of the State Water Project, California Department of Water Resources staff conduct mandatory visual inspections of all trailered, motorized watercraft at the major launch structures.
  • Inspection Locations: Bidwell Canyon Marina, 801 Bidwell Canyon Rd, Oroville, CA 95966; Spillway Boat Launch, Spillway Boat Ramp Rd off Canyon Drive, Oroville, CA 95966; Lime Saddle Marina, 3428 Marina View Dr, Paradise, CA 95969.
  • Decontamination Cost: $0. Inspections are funded by state programs. If your vessel fails the dry-inspection check, they do not have a standard public decontamination wash on site. You may be turned away to let the boat dry for up to 30 days or to use a private local marine facility.

9. Clear Lake

  • Requirements: Mandatory screening and county sticker. Lake County has local ordinances requiring a physical screening and a county-specific Quagga/Zebra (QZ) sticker before launching any trailered watercraft. If you have been outside Lake County, you must get re-screened.
  • Inspection Locations: Lake County Water Resources Dept, 255 N Forbes St, Lakeport, CA 95453; Clear Lake State Park, 5300 Soda Bay Rd, Kelseyville, CA 95451; various local tackle shops, such as Lakeport Bait & Tackle and Clearlake Bait & Tackle.
  • Sticker Fee: $20 for the mandatory local sticker.
  • Decontamination Cost: Screenings and re-screenings are free. If a deeper inspection determines your ski boat poses an active threat, you may be charged an inspection/decontamination fee at an approved local marine service center, generally $75-$150.

10. Lake Englebright

  • Requirements: Mandatory physical screening. Because it is just downstream from New Bullards Bar on the Yuba River, Englebright falls under strict observation. All motorized vessels must be checked by park staff/rangers to confirm they are clean, drained, and dry.
  • Inspection Location: Joe Miller Boat Launch / Englebright Lake Headquarters, 12143 Englebright Dam Rd, Smartsville, CA 95977.
  • Decontamination Cost: $0. Visual checks are free, but there are no on-site hot-wash facilities. If you are holding water in ballast tanks, you may be rejected at the gate.

11. Lake Tahoe

  • Requirements: Mandatory professional inspection and tagging. Lake Tahoe has a strict “In and Out” wire seal system. All motorized watercraft must pass a visual inspection. If the boat has standing water or lacks a valid, intact Tahoe wire seal, it will be subject to mandatory hot-water decontamination.
  • Inspection Locations: Inspections do not happen at the boat ramps. You must go to a roadside inspection station before arriving at the lake.
  • Stations: Alpine Meadows Station, 255 Alpine Meadows Rd, Alpine Meadows, CA 96146; Meyers Station, 2175 Keetak St, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150; Truckee Station, 10344 Donner Pass Rd, Truckee, CA 96161.
  • Inspection Fee: $95 for vessels 17’1″ and up, covering intermediate ski boats.
  • Decontamination Fee: $60-$100 depending on boat complexity. Ballast tanks and live wells add complexity. If you arrive 100% clean, drained, and dry, they may discount the decontamination fee by 50%.
